The “OIV – As construções do vinho” (OIV – The Constructions of Wine) exhibition, curated and designed by João Pedro Serôdio and Nuno Brandão Costa, seeks to portray in an expressive and symbolic way the grand Portuguese geography, landscape and environment lends itself to the production of high quality wine, in absolute communion with the quality of the architectural amenities that have been serving this industry. This portrait is intended to cover the whole of Portugal at different times in its history, as represented in the various buildings shown, that are in a variety of styles and periods (from the vernacular, through the baroque, to the contemporary). The exhibition, held in the northern room of the Porto Customs House, is in a large-scale structure, where a succession of niches built in self-supporting masonry block cork (reminiscent of the walls of the terraces), displays 11 sites and buildings representing the theme in magnificent large format photos by Luís Ferreira Alves, illuminated in a continuous light box. A panoramic environment is created, showing the spaces that embrace Portuguese wine production throughout the land. This succession of images is complemented by a series of short films by Cláudia Clemente, projected on a wall, providing another interpretative view of the same spaces and times.
