“The Form of Form” embodies the core exhibition of the 4th edition of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale. The curator, Diogo Seixas Lopes, challenged 3 architecture offices, JonhstonMarkLee (USA), Nuno Brandão Costa (Portugal) and OFFICE Kersten Geers & David Van Severen (Belgium) to jointly design and construct a reflection on form and authorship in architecture, functioning as a physical support for the contents compiled by Mariana Fabrizi and Fosco Lucarelli (Socks-Studio). Over the course of almost two years of joint work and reflection, the exhibition project has evolved into an ephemeral construction. Constructed from the full-scale (1: 1) reproduction of 12 spaces taken from projects and constructions of each of the offices. The choice of spaces was made by the 3 designers. They each selected 2 spaces from the other 2 participants. This process of choice is the essence of the process, expressed in its construction. With the assemblage of spaces, in their multiple formal, dimensional and typological relationships, along with the urban links that are established with the surrounding buildings, the landscape and the river generate a surprising spatiality and morphology, whose experience transcends the materiality of each form. The final object, a huge pavilion of about 1000m2, constructively designed for limited resistance, evokes the timelessness of architectural forms: The dialectic between fragmentation and spatial continuity, the demonstration of the conceptual and constructive process, the precision of the scale and the dimensional ambiguity. The historical reference, the authorial idiosyncrasy and the anonymity of the form.
